Plant Manager – Permanent Full-time Position

Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) is a producer-owned, independent cooperative with dairy processing plants and a retail food distribution facility spread throughout PEI. For over 70 years, we have processed fresh milk from PEI farms to produce premium dairy products, including milk, cheese, cream, butter, and canned milk. Our quality dairy products are in kitchens and restaurants across PEI and Canada.

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Plant Manager at the ADL Fitzroy facility oversees the production of high-quality canned milk products. This role ensures the plant operates efficiently, meeting ADL’s standards for safety, quality, and productivity. The Plant Manager leads and supports a team of 20+ production staff, manages schedules, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. This position is crucial for maintaining a safe, efficient, and positive working environment.

Location: ADL Fitzroy, Charlottetown, PE

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary ranges at $80,000 – $85,000 and will be based on the candidate’s experience and success in similar positions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations, develop, and update production schedules, and ensure compliance with ADL standards.
  • Lead, support, and supervise production staff, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure production meets BRC certification requirements and review Critical Control Point reporting.
  • Control inventory levels, coordinate with finance and business development teams, and manage processing supplies.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, enforce health and safety regulations, and support safety program development.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Work with sales, finance, operations, quality assurance, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth production processes.

Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in the dairy or food manufacturing industry.
  • Proven ability to manage production teams, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to quickly identify and resolve production issues.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace, with knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Adaptable to changing conditions and able to handle unforeseen challenges.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Training:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in food science, dairy science, engineering, or operations management.
