4th Class Power Engineer – Membrane Processor

Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) is a producer-owned, independent cooperative that operates dairy processing and retail food distribution facilities throughout PEI. For 70 years, we have processed fresh milk from PEI farms to produce premium dairy products, including milk, cheese, cream, butter, and ice cream. Position Overview:

Are you a 4th Class Power Engineer seeking a hands-on role with real impact? This role is tailored for those who are not only technically adept but also excel in dynamic and strategically important tasks within a manufacturing environment.

As a Membrane Processor, you’ll oversee the critical conversion of cheese whey into Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC), ensuring that each batch adheres to our stringent quality standards. This essential ingredient is widely used in various food products, including protein bars, beverages, and nutritional supplements.

More importantly, you will play a key role in maintaining operational efficiency within our facilities. Responsibilities include managing boiler systems to support seamless production processes, maintaining equipment cleanliness, overseeing chemical distribution, and effectively managing unforeseen challenges such as power outages. Compensation and Benefits:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Actively engage in the filtering and shipping of WPC (Whey Protein Concentrate), meticulously ensuring whey conversions meet our high-quality standards.
  • Regularly monitor and test boiler water, making necessary adjustments to maintain optimal performance.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on boilers, water systems, and related equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Participate in thorough cleaning and inspection of all equipment during the annual plant shutdown, ensuring operational integrity.
  • Manage chemical distribution, assessing and replenishing departmental chemical supplies as needed.
  • Operate the CIP (clean-in-place) system, ensuring all pipelines are cleaned to the highest standards.
  • Handle the operation and maintenance of generators during power outages, ensuring continuous production.
  • Oversee the fire alarm systems, maintaining a secure working environment.
  • Accurately and promptly complete all necessary paperwork, maintaining clear and detailed records.
  • Conduct start-up inspections to guarantee the cleanliness and maintenance of equipment, floors, ceilings, and overhead structures to prevent contamination.
  • Deliver operational and safety training to colleagues, fostering a culture of knowledge and safety.
  • Be prepared to take on other related duties as they arise, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.

Qualifications:
  • A valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate.
  • Experience in a HACCP certified food production environment is highly beneficial.
  • Prepared to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including scheduled weekdays and extended weekends off.
  • Capacity to work in a manufacturing setting, which includes exposure to noise, temperature variations, and physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout the shift.
  • Prior experience with chemical handling, adherence to safety protocols, and use of personal protective equipment is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are crucial.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions and directions.
  • Team player who works collaboratively with peers and supervisors.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices is desirable.

Education and Training:
  • A valid 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate.
