General Dairy Worker

Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) is a producer-owned, independent cooperative with dairy processing plants and a retail food distribution facility across Prince Edward Island (PEI). For over 70 years, ADL has been dedicated to transforming fresh milk from local PEI farms into premium dairy products, including milk, cheese, cream, butter, and canned milk. Our products grace kitchens and restaurants throughout PEI and Canada.

Position Overview: 

The General Dairy Worker is responsible for supporting various roles across the dairy plant to ensure smooth production operations. This includes filling in for key positions such as Filler Operator, Assistant Filler Operator, and Shipper/Receiver, along with other tasks to maintain production efficiency and cleanliness. This union position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and flexibility in shifting between tasks and schedules.

Location: ADL St. Eleanors – 36 Greenwood Drive, Summerside, PE.

Work Environment and Schedule:

  • Fast-paced with moderate noise levels.
  • Temperature-controlled in packaging areas, colder in shipping.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols, including PPE, proper uniform, hairnets in packaging, and steel toe boots.
  • Regular shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Some scheduling flexibility is required for filling in different roles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fill in for Various Roles:
    1. Filler Operator: Set up and operate filler machines, conduct inspections, ensure product quality, transfer products to cooler, and clean/reassemble equipment.
    2. Assistant Filler Operator: Assist in setup and operations, supply retrieval, label setup, ensure quality standards, feed empty bottles into production, and assist with cleaning.
    3. Shipper/Receiver: Prepare shipments, receive and rotate stock, record inventory, stack crates, and maintain a clean dock area.
  • Supply packaging materials, cover breaks, unload supplies, and prepare equipment for cleaning-in-place (CIP). Maintain cleanliness throughout the plant.
  • Use electric pallet jacks and everyday tools safely and effectively.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including use of PPE, maintaining proper uniform, and adhering to hygiene policies.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and on time.
  • Coordinate with production and shipping teams, cover breaks, communicate with drivers and processing staff to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a production or manufacturing environment, with a focus on food processing preferred.
  • Physically fit, able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Must be willing to work Saturdays, evenings, and most holidays, especially when filling in for shippers.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to different tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, moderately noisy environment.
  • Commitment to safety and efficiency in all aspects of work.
  • Proactive work ethic and effective communication skills for team collaboration.
