Operations Manager

Description:

Amalgamated Dairies Limited (ADL) is a producer-owned, independent cooperative that operates dairy processing and retail food distribution facilities throughout PEI. For 70 years, we have processed fresh milk from PEI farms to produce premium dairy products, including milk, cheese, cream, butter, and ice cream. Our quality dairy products are in kitchens and restaurants across PEI and Canada. In addition, ADL produces dairy products for markets in the US, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Position Overview:

The Operations Manager is a new position within the ADL team, reporting to the Director of Operations. This position will support our team with project management, continuous improvement and assist with operational activities at all production and service sites. The Operations Manager collaborates with industry stakeholders and service providers to identify best practices and new technology. The Operations Manager works closely with Business Development, CEO, Finance, QA, and Procurement on planning and strategy.

Location: ADL Water St., Summerside, PE

Salary Range: This position is a leadership role with ADL, with compensation being set based on the individual’s work history and level of proven success in a similar role. Salary will be negotiated in line with industry standards and internal compensation levels. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage project management tools and methodologies.
  • Build and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, leading key CI initiatives.
  • Implementation of industry-leading facility safety and customer satisfaction programs
  • Identify and manage employee development/training ensuring business continuity by building applicable functional competencies.
  • Coordinate and drive new equipment design, selection, integration and automation processes.
  • Implementation of industry-leading initiatives in the management team and across the organization that contribute to long-term operational excellence
  • Support the company in production planning and ensure the business is adequately resourced.
  • Understand the costs and profitability of plants and projects with the development of operational and financial objectives in reducing these costs.
  • Manage material lead times and ensure the production team has enough time to manufacture and deliver products based on the customer’s request.
  • Engage all levels of management to identify best practices and explore opportunities to increase productivity and streamline functions.
  • Development and implementation of long-term manufacturing capacity planning to meet the growth of the business
  • Improve operational efficiency and increase productivity. Support sustainability objectives by reducing waste, packaging inputs and energy consumption.

Qualifications:
  • Considerable experience in operations management and project management in the food processing environment or dairy industry
  • PMP, PM certification, education, or exposure to Lean or Agile manufacturing operations
  • Strong understanding of food manufacturing and food production regulations
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience in managing teams, process controls, vendor and change management
  • Strong computer skills

Education and Training:
  • University degree or college diploma in a related field
  • PMP, PM certification, education, or exposure to Lean or Agile manufacturing operations
